Bobby the Aardvark A Transsexual Tale edition by Sandra Wagner Literature Fiction eBooks

This is a transgender allegorical tale of a child who is magically transported to the world of aardvarks and must learn how to cope being in an such an alien land. This story tries to give a feeling of how trans people feel living cis-gendered world. The story idea came from the author's workshop called "Trans 101 - Trans Information for the Non-trans Community".
Bobby the Aardvark A Transsexual Tale edition by Sandra Wagner Literature Fiction eBooks
Had the full title not included "A transsexual tale", Bobby the Aardvark would have appeared to be a dark fairy take about a young boy who suddenly awakes one morning in the body of an Aardvark. Suddenly he doesn't fit in the world around him. His parents, schoolteachers and schoolmates, even his doctors find his insistence that he is actually a little boy wholly repellent, even deviant. The more he fights against society's need for him to enjoy ants, eat with his tongue, decry humans as savage and, in essence, join the herd, the worse things get leading to two disparate possibilities for young Bobby. The subtitle for the book tells one exactly the analogy that is being drawn here and it is an accurate one at that. Transgender and gender nonconforming people find themselves born into one of two boxes, one of two aisles at Toys R Us: Girl or boy, pink or blue. If they have the temerity to step outside those boxes, they are subjected to humiliation, degradation through words such as "freak," "abomination" "tranny" "man in a dress" the list is endless but serves to remove a person's humanity and thus make it easier for them to be fired, arrested, assaulted even killed.
Bobby knows about this all too well. The story turns on each of the events that seem to geometrically progress in terms of horror. Who would approve of a boy being sent to conversion therapy where he is placed in a cage, and assaulted physically and psychologically until he accepts that he is the way society wants him to be? Unless he is considered such a threat to the absolutes some people insist upon that such an action is considered best, not only for him but for society.
No matter what your sexual orientation, gender or the way you must express, you cannot read Bobby the Aardvark without feeling pity for this terrified young boy and therein lies the brilliance of the story. It has often been said that for anyone to understand how a group of people feel, it becomes necessary to walk in their shoes. Few have the bravery to do so. Bobby the Aardvark the opportunity without the risk and I applaud the writer for such an inspiration and the manner with which it is delivered.
There is the need for some editing in the book, but that in no way detracted from it's effect or purpose. In those matters, it succeeded in a relentless and gut-wrenching way.
